Holiday season means more seasonal jobs in Tampa

Lots of retailers are hiring, meaning more seasonal jobs in Tampa.

Kohl’s just announced they are hiring for lots of jobs. it is hiring a whopping 50,000 people for various jobs around the U.S. at its stores.

Kohl’s anticipates hiring an average of 40 associates per store.

The company anticipates hiring approximately 6,400 seasonal positions at distribution centers across the country and approximately 350 seasonal credit operations positions.

Seasonal associates can work anywhere from a few hours to more than 20 hours per week. Typical store jobs include unloading trucks, freight processing, stocking and cash register duties.

Hiring began this month, and most jobs will be filled by mid-November. Holiday positions are also being filled at the company’s distribution centers, where hiring began in August.

Walmart is also hiring. The company’s CEO said, “The Christmas season is a busy time for everyone and we know that millions of customers are counting on Walmart to help with great deals, low prices and one-stop shopping convenience. We are determined to help customers and associates provide their families a memorable and affordable Christmas.”

“The holidays are a special time of year for many Americans. For some it’s about being with loved ones; for others it’s about giving their family a Christmas to remember,” Gisel Ruiz, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Walmart U.S. said.

“Our associates have always been the key to Walmart’s success, and that’s especially true during the holidays. We know our associates are going to deliver for our customers, so we are going to deliver for our associates. In addition to the traditional hiring of seasonal help, we are expanding opportunities for the people that already work for us,” Ruiz added.

IT jobs in Tampa on the rise?

The second half of 2013 should bring many new IT jobs in Tampa, according to a survey.

In CareerBuilder and’s latest national survey, employers indicated that full-time, permanent hiring in the second half of 2013 will trend down slightly from that of 2012 while temporary and contract hiring is expected to increase 18 percentage points over last year.

the study shows there will be a continued boost in temporary and part-time hiring activity, while demand for full-time positions will taper off slightly from last year:

· 51 percent of IT employers plan to hire full-time, permanent employees, down slightly from 55 percent last year

· 21 percent plan to hire part-time employees, up from 18 percent last year

· 46 percent plan to hire temporary or contract workers, up from 28 percent last year
IT employers plan to hire in the following areas:

· Jobs tied to mobile technology – 47 percent

· Jobs tied to cloud technology – 43 percent

· Jobs tied to managing and interpreting big data – 32 percent

· Jobs tied to cyber security – 30 percent

· Jobs tied to social media – 23 percent

· Jobs tied to health informatics – 18 percent

· Jobs tied to financial regulation – 14 percent

Burger joint hiring for food service jobs in Tampa

A national chain that specializes in burgers is hiring for food service jobs in Tampa related to the newest opening.

Red Robin, which cooks up and dishes out gourmet burgers, is hiring for its newest restaurant located at Tyrone Mall on the corner of 1-9 Tyrone Blvd. and 66th Street. The restaurant is opening in early October.
